Peripherals are the input and output devices of the computer, this can be from the needed monitor, to the external printer and scanner. All peripherals have different jobs to do and in the descriptions below i outline what these jobs are.
Input Device
Output Device
The input device is responsible working with the user and the OS in order to enable the user to complete functions. Used to enter data into a computer for processing
Input devices are external components which can be plugged in through a port within the computers motherboard.
An output device is responsible for sending out data packets that will get transformed into something.
Used to transfer data out of the computer
For example, sending visual data to a monitor which then displays it to the user.
Cabling - Coaxial
Coaxial cable is called that because it includes one physical channel that carries the signal.
Most commonly used for antenna cables, also commonly known as a satellite cable because it is widely used by TV companies between the communication antenna and the the home or business.
Cabling - Optical
Optical cable technology is transmission of information as light pulses along a glass or plastic strand or fiber.
Also know as fiber optics, because of its reliability and fast transfer speeds, it has replaced copper wire in long-distance lines.
Cabling - Twisted Pair
Twisted pair cabling is a type of wiring in which two conductors of a single circuit are twisted together for the purposes of canceling out electromagnetic interference from external sources.
The two wires carry equal and opposite signals and the destination detects the difference between the two.
Input - Keyboard
A keyboard is used as an input tool in order to register a users input when selecting characters.
It enables the user to enter data into the computer.
Input - Mouse
A computer mouse is used in order to operate the pointer and select function. The mouse is responsible to acting on the users request in order to select or move a file on the system.
Input - Scanner
A scanner is a Input device in which a photograph of a document is taken and transferred onto the computer.
A scanner is a device that captures images from photographic prints, posters, magazine pages, and similar sources for computer editing and display
Input - Microphone
A microphone is an input device in which a user speaks into, when the user speaks into the device, their voice is transformed into data packets and are sent through
to the computer, then the computer can relay the data
packets onto apps, such as skype. The microphone connects to the sound card.
